Our Vision: Building for Life
Curriculum Intent
At the Ridgeway CE Primary School the curriculum is designed to embody our vision ‘Building for Life’. We aim to provide a broad, vibrant curriculum that enables pupils to explore their learning in all its fullness and equips them for the future, while creating an inclusive environment in which every member of our school community can flourish. Alongside developing core knowledge and skills which children build upon we want our children to be inquisitive, resilient, creative, critical in their thinking and outward looking individuals who are ready for the next step of their journey.
Curriculum Design:
Our curriculum design draws on Rosenshine’s Principles of Instruction incorporating Tom Sherrington’s implementation of these principles. These principles guide our approach to teaching and learning, ensuring that our methods are evidence-based and effective. We use a thematic, cross-curricular approach to learning, when appropriate, helping children to learn in meaningful contexts, independently and in collaboration. Our curriculum adheres to the National Curriculum and the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework also reflects our core Christian values of caring, respect, and perseverance. We support our children in becoming enthusiastic, curious, life-long learners who continue to build on their learning and who are ready for the next step in their journey.
Curriculum intent:
- Deliver meaningful and engaging learning experiences that inspire, challenge and support every child to reach their full potential.
- Inclusive curriculum that meets the diverse needs of our pupils, ensuring learning is accessible to all, encouraging curiosity, discussion, exploration, and positive risk-taking.
- Consider the child holistically promoting academic, social, emotional and spiritual development, helping each child become the best version of themselves.
- Develop critical thinking by encouraging pupils to connect new ideas with prior knowledge and apply learning across different contexts.
- Provide a broad and balanced curriculum that builds essential knowledge and skills, while embedding our core values throughout.
