The Ridgeway C.E. Primary School

RSHE Parent Consultation

PSHE Primary

As you may be aware, the Department for Education (DfE) has published updated statutory guidance for Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE), which schools are required to implement by September 2026.

This provides us with a valuable opportunity to review and refresh our curriculum, ensuring that it continues to meet statutory requirements while reflecting the world our children are growing up in. Throughout this process, our focus remains the same: providing children with the age-appropriate knowledge, understanding and skills they need to stay safe, develop healthy relationships and navigate the wider world with confidence.

At The Ridgeway Primary School, we use Jigsaw – the mindful approach to PSHE – as our PSHE programme. Jigsaw is a comprehensive and progressive scheme that is taught across the school through six half-term units:

  • Being Me in My World
  • Celebrating Difference
  • Dreams and Goals
  • Healthy Me
  • Relationships
  • Changing Me

These units build year upon year, helping children to develop emotional literacy, resilience, self-esteem, wellbeing and an understanding of positive, healthy relationships.

The good news is that the updated guidance builds upon the strong foundations already in place within Jigsaw. Rather than introducing significant changes, it strengthens and enhances the programme we already know and value. As part of our review, we are also considering how best to adapt and tailor the programme to meet the needs of our children, families and wider school community.

Your Views Matter

We believe that children benefit most when schools and families work together. As part of our review process, we will be holding an  RSHE Coffee Morning Consultation Session on:

Thursday 25th June 2026 at 9.00am

This will be an opportunity to:

  • Learn more about the Jigsaw PSHE programme and how it is taught across the school.
  • Explore how we adapt the curriculum to meet the needs of our school community.
  • View examples of the resources and materials used in lessons.
  • Understand how our curriculum meets statutory requirements for Relationships and Health Education.
  • Ask questions about any aspect of our PSHE and RSHE provision.
  • Share your views and feedback to help inform future curriculum decisions.
  • Learn more about parents' right to request withdrawal from specific non-statutory Sex Education lessons.
